VINYL LETTERING FOR
SIGNBOARDS
FIRST
MEASURE THE AVAILABLE AREA TO ASCERTAIN YOUR SIGN SIZE.
DECIDE ON THE BACKGROUND COLOUR.
WHICH MAY BE EXISTING, OR THAT YOU MAY BE PAINTING (please bear
in mind that a gloss finish is best for vinyl to adhere to),
AND CHOOSE CONTRASTING COLOURS
FOR THE TEXT AND GRAPHICS.
If
you are making your own signboard, we recommend plastic as the
best material, but gloss finished plywood or MDF board will
also provide the necessary smooth surface for applying the
vinyl to. The adhesive on the vinyl is very strong, and as
long as the surface is smooth, clean and dust-free, the
lettering will remain intact for years.
We
use compressed foam board, such as Foamex, and can make your
sign completely for you if you wish. Please email for a quote,
but a rough idea is the normal "builders board" at
600mm x 900mm x 5mm, including the lettering will cost you
approximately £45.

DESIGN TIPS FOR LETTERING
It is a good idea to draw a rough
sketch of your sign
filling in the panel sizes with a layout that gives you the
maximum lettering size that will fit. The bigger and bolder it
is, the more chance it will attract attention and be read.
If your sign has no frame then a border will enhance
the sign.
You can also
use a
bolder and/or different font or a
different colour to highlight your name or name of the
business.
LETTERING SIZE
A good rule of thumb to calculate the area your lettering will
take up, is to multiply the height of the letter by
the number of letters in the line. This will give you the
approximate length of the line. Of course this varies, depending on
the font used, but don’t worry, when ordering, you should
give us the measurements of the space you want to mark up, and we will adjust accordingly.
GRAPHICS AND LOGO’S
We can reproduce
most graphics or logos
to your specified size
providing you can supply us with suitable artwork.
There will be a one off setup charge for this, depending on
the quality of artwork
and the complexity of the design. We will quote you separately
for this on receipt of artwork.
We will keep your design on file
for future reordering, thus avoiding this charge again.
Finally,
please visit our Help Page, where you
will find instructions on fitting your vinyl, and remember,
take your time and don't panic, and you will find that it is
relatively easy to do, fun and satisfying.
